England: Commemorations of the 1940 Dunkirk evacuation were disrupted to allow a migrant boat crossing the Channel to pass. “This was demanded by the Border Police and the French Navy.”

A flotilla of "small ships" crossing the Channel to commemorate the Dunkirk evacuation was forced to divert so that Border Force could escort a boat of migrants. (…)
The commemorations were disrupted when border police and the French navy demanded that the flotilla be diverted to create a one-nautical-mile exclusion zone for a migrant boat.
The small boat, which had been launched from northern France, was escorted across the Channel by the French Navy and the British Border Force. (…)
The footage shows the dinghy, filled with people who appeared to be wearing life jackets, closely followed by a smaller boat and what appeared to be a large French Loire-class naval vessel.
Chris Cox, coordinator of the flotilla commemorating Operation Dynamo, said of the unexpected disruption: "There was a migrant boat in the water, which was being covered by a French naval vessel. As is customary, we moved away and left it to the authorities to deal with."

30,000 French (supported at the beginning by a few English battalions) had to contain 160,000 Germans who were gathering around a pocket that was rapidly shrinking: 15 km along the coast and 6 km inland. Pushed back to the ropes, the Allies were one round away from being knocked out. (…) The heroism of the French divisions, which fought with the energy of despair, bluffed the enemy.
Georg von Küchler, a German general, even confided: "I find in French soldiers the same passion as those at Verdun. Dunkirk proves to me that the French soldier is the best in the world. (…)"
"I cannot understand how such valiant soldiers, fighting in various places one against ten, still manage to find enough strength to launch an assault: it is simply astonishing!" - Georg von Küchler
“The heroic resistance of the French army at Lille and Dunkirk saved the British army, enabling England to continue the war. (…)” – Winston Churchill
